How to request an assessment accommodation

If the assessment is measuring your eyesight, your internet connection or how fast you read a screen rather than whether you can do the work, ask for an adjustment. It takes a minute and no employer is ever told you asked.

What you can ask for

Extra time — a longer limit on timed sections. A reviewer sets the multiplier when approving, so the amount matches the request rather than being one fixed allowance for everybody.

Screen-reader support — no questions that can only be answered by looking at something, and navigation built to work under a screen reader. This sitting is untimed: a screen reader changes how long reading takes, and timing it would put back exactly the thing the adjustment removes.

Low-bandwidth mode — no media-heavy questions, answers saved as you go, and connection drops are not counted as integrity signals. On a weak connection a dropout is a fact about the network, not about you.

You can ask for more than one.

How to ask

  1. Open the assessment screen in your candidate account, before you start.
  2. Choose the adjustments you want.
  3. Optionally add a note if there is context a reviewer should have. It is stored encrypted.
  4. Submit, and wait for the decision — you will see it on the same screen.

What you do not need

No diagnosis. No medical letter. No explanation of your circumstances. We do not ask and we do not want them: collecting health data we have no use for would create a risk for you and an obligation for us, for no benefit to either.

Who decides

A person. They see what you asked for and your note — not who you are. The decision is about the adjustment, not about the person requesting it.

An approval carries a validity period, so you are not re-requesting the same adjustment before every sitting inside it.

If an approved accommodation was not applied

That is a named ground for an appeal. File it under "an approved accommodation was not applied" and a human reviews it within 48 hours. A confirmed failure normally results in a fresh sitting rather than an explanation. See how to appeal.

If what you need is not on the list

Email accessibility@calhire.com. Those three adjustments are what the product implements today — that is a statement about the product, not about what is reasonable to need, and a request we cannot yet handle is still worth us knowing about.
